The following is the text of a statement issued to the Socialist Republican
Publicity Bureau:
"From the evening of Sunday July 6th units of the Irish National Liberation Army have been engaged in operations in defence of besieged Nationalist communities. Our Volunteers have been active in gun and grenade attacks throughout Belfast and across the six-counties - resulting in a number of RUC and British army casualties. In keeping with our position of 'defence and retaliation', these actions are in direct response to the forcing of a triumphalist Orange march through the Garvaghy Rd and brutal actions of the Crown forces. In contrast to those elected representatives who have called for an ending of street disturbances - the INLA support and stand by our oppressed community and will continue to do so no matter what form their protests take. The dishonest and duplicitous manner in which Mo Mowlam set out to hoodwink Nationalist resident associations epitomises the unchanging and unchangeable pro-unionist ethos of British Governments of whatever hue. What more will it take to show Hume, Adams and Ahern that Constitutional Nationalism has failed to deliver for the Irish people of the six-counties? We are fast approaching the 12th of July. The Orange order are boasting that with the help of the RUC they will walk the length of the Ormeau Rd. Loyalist paramilitaries (aligned to the CLMC) are already engaged in activities aimed at republicans and nationalists. All this may well come to pass - but it will not be without great cost. If any more Loyalist marches are forced through Nationalist communities we will move from our position of 'defence and retaliation'. Those within the Loyalist orders, organisations and groups deemed to be responsible for the misery heaped upon our communities will be made accountable. This is not a decision that we have arrived at lightly. Nor is it an idle threat. We are fully prepared and committed to carrying out what we have stated." |
