What Price Compassion? - IRSP
3 August 1995

The Irish Republican Socialist Party condemn today's courtroom decision by Judge Carswell to refuse compassionate parole to North Belfast Remand prisoner Eddie Campbell.

Labeling the decision as "incredulous against the current political backdrop of peace," IRSP spokesperson on prisons Gino Gallagher said: <

"Today's decision by the 'notorious' Judge Carswell lacks any basis in rational thinking. Here we have a young man whose sister lies in a coma following childbirth complications and the face of British justice is seen in its true form. How in the face of almost a year of Republican ceasefire not to mention an honourable tradition amongst Republicans of meeting compassionate bail conditions, can this man (Carswell) refuse this man time to be with his critically ill sister and a family who need his presence at this time?"
