The Irish Republican Socialist Party have described any suggestion of a return to some form of Stormont Assembly as "partitionist and a non-starter as far as the IRSP is concerned."
Party Spokesperson Gino Gallagher said that the statement made yesterday by Strangford Unionist MP John Taylor concerning the possibility of SDLP/Sinn Fein acceptance of an Assembly at Stormont needed addressing. "Whether or not these Nationalist parties (the SDLP/Sinn Fein) are considering involvement in some form of revamped Stormont Assembly as part of an interim settlement is a matter for themselves. It would be helpful if they were to declare where they stand on the issue. As for the IRSP, we reject totally any return to Stormont. To accept such would be a de facto acceptance of partition and a fudging of the concept of national self-determination. We will have nothing to do with such an assembly, and if elections are called, we will campaign on a rejectionist ticket." |
