Statement from IRSP Ard Comhairle member Gary Adams:
"The circumstances surrounding the death of INLA Volunteer John Morris give cause for grave concern. In the initial reports released by the Gardai following the shooting they stated that there was an exchange of shots. We now learn that John Morris carried a firearm that was not loaded. Another Garda report stated that Mr. Morris raised his weapon in a menacing gesture - yet eye-witnesses contradict this. Early indications are that John Morris was shot from behind. Yet despite the very serious questions raised by these allegations not one 'investigative' journalist has broken from the Harcourt Square line and pointed up these contradictions. Indeed, reporters such as the Irish Independent 'security' correspondent, Tom Brady, have spent this morning doing radio interviews wherein he speaks of drugs, the Guerin murder and then sets about assassinating the character of John Morris. Asking questions about the manner in which John Morris met his death should not be confused with agreement with either his activities or his political objectives. On the other hand, remaining silent sends out a clear signal that state sanctioned murder is fine so long as the victim is someone with whom we disagree." |
