IRSP statement on Loyalist bomb attack in Belfast
21 June 1997

Statement from IRSP spokesperson Fra Halligan:

"Today's bomb attack was clearly the work of Loyalist paramilitaries aligned to the C.L.M.C.

Between last evening and this morning the RUC visited the homes of IRSP members and supporters across Belfast and warned them that they were on a "Loyalist death list" and that attacks were "imminent".

While the aim was to murder members of the IRSP, none of the victims are associated with our Party.

This attack marks a new departure in Loyalist attacks. Clearly sanctioned by the C.L.M.C., it was aimed at provoking a response from the I.N.L.A.

In spite of this attack, the Irish Republican Socialist Party will continue to urge the I.N.L.A. against involving itself in activities designed to facilitate a return to inter-communal conflict."
