FAIT an NIO Front Say IRSP
3 March 1998

West Belfast IRSP representative Fra Halligan has accused FAIT of being little more than a front for Mo Mowlam and the Northern Ireland Office.

Criticising FAIT worker Glynn Roberts statement yesterday that 'the LVF, like their counterparts in the INLA and CIRA, are a complete abomination to democracy and peace in Northern Ireland."

Mr. Halligan said: "What gives a thoroughly discredited organisation such as FAIT the right to enter into the political arena with spurious and malicious claims about organisations. The INLA are on record as stating tthat they 'will not stand in the way of a negotiated, democratic peaceful settlement that has every political opinion on the table'.

"Unfortunately, the current political process is neither negotiations or democratic and is working to an exclusive partionist agenda. The IRSP's opposiiton to the current process is based on the flawed agenda of the current process is based on the flawed agenda of the current process and not any opposition to long term peace on the Island of Ireland.

The line that if you are not involved in the current flawed process that you are opposed to peace is a NIO line and one we are not surprised to hear an organisation such as FAIT espousing. Maybe when FAIT takes a public against the systematic forced evictions of nationalist families from their homes by the Unionist community backed up by the RUC, the nationalist community might take Glynn Roberts and FAIT's opinions seriously."
