RUC Intelligence Tries to Commission Murder
9 September 1998

The Irish Republican Socialist Party in Belfast have said that the uncovering of John Bowen by the INLA as a British agent provacature is evidence that the British government has no intention of adhering to the discredited "Mitchell principles."

"John Bowne was commissioned by his RUC handlers to suggest the murder of a man to the INLA in an attempt to break the cease-fire that was declared on August 22, 1998."

This is a clear contravention of the "Mitchell principles."

"The IRSP condemn this transparent attempt by the RUC and British intelligence to commission the breaking of the INLA cease-fire. The question must now be asked, are these tactics and operations sanctioned from the very top of the British establishment? Are Mo Mowlam and Tony Blair actively involved in destabilising the current political climate?"

The IRSP will be seeking urgent meetings with both the Irish and British governments and Senator George Mitchell to convey our anger and dismay at the current British activity.

The IRSP will be handing John Bowen over to respected intermediaries as his safety cannot be guaranteed within local communities, we would take the opportunity to advise anyone else who finds themselves entrapped by the British authorities to give themselves up either to the IRSP or other credible organisations within the community.

For the British government the war obviously is not over.
