The Irish Republican Socialist Party are reacting angrily to the ongoing row that is being engineered by Unionism as a device for stalling political progress. IRSP Ard Comhairle (national executive) representative Paul Little said:
"The current supposed crisis in the assembly over decomissionning is being deliberately engineered by section of Unionism in an attempt to destabise the current political climate. "It is our opinion that there are many problems and flaws with the Belfast agreement, but by far the most worrying for the Nationalist working class community is the on-going and serious sectarian attacks on our community from Loyalism. "Nationalists across the six counties are facing the brunt of sectarianism, these attacks are happening in the home, in the work place, and in town centres. Recent events in Portadown, Fermanagh, and North Belfast bare witness to this onslaught." In conclusion the IRSP representative said, "Decommissioning of weapons and demilitarisation are issues that have to be addressed by all those who hold arms, this includes the British. A mechanism for dealing with this issue has been set up as part of the Belfast agreement and is up and running. Attempts by Unionists to rewrite the agreement at this stage runs contrary to the wishes of the vast majority of the people of Ireland as freely expressed in the referenda. Meanwhile, the assembly refuses to deal with the most pressing problem, that of ongoing sectarian attacks on the Nationalist working class community." |
