The Irish Republican Socialist Party have rejected proposals made by the Policing Board at a recent meeting in Derry for the possible adoption of a 'softer' plastic bullet as lacking any interest in a 'genuine peaceful future'.
A spokesperson for the IRSP said in a statement: "The Policing Boards decision to adopt the introduction of the new 'attenuated energy projectile' (AEP) will bring little comfort to working class families who have lost loved ones to baton rounds over the years on our streets. The idea of bringing out a 'softer' plastic bullet would be laughable if it wasn't so serious. "Our class have continuously been used by the British state as guinea pigs and their agenda hasn't changed in spite of the Belfast Agreement and the web of lies they spin. We have witnessed this week alone, the killing of a man in England at the hands of the police by two baton rounds. For many people in the occupied six counties who watched television as this incident was developing, it brought back many horrific memories of scores of similar atrocities by the same state forces on our own streets. In conclusion the spokesperson said "The possible introduction of the new AEP goes to show if proof were needed, that the PSNI/RUC and the Policing Boards are far more interested in confrontation and the control of our class than they are about a genuine peaceful future."
