IRSP Denounce Ambulance Attackers
1 October 2005

Yvonne Dalton, IRSP spokesperson in Galliagh, has reiterated the party's call for a community led response to the issues surrounding anti-community activities in the Greater Shantallow area following an attack earlier today on an ambulance crew in Fergleen Park in Galliagh.

In her statement she said, "The Irish Republican Socialist Party condemn utterly the cowardly attack on an ambulance and its crew in Fergleen Park earlier today. This attack yet again shows the need in the area for a united community led approach to the issues surrounding anti-community activities.

"We in the IRSP demand that fire and ambulance crews be allowed to go about their duties unhindered. Attacks such as the attack this morning cannot and will not be tolerated within this community.

"The ambulance service plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of members of the community who need them at particular times and this is very much appreciated by the vast majority of people. The people behind today's attack are a small minority who have the potential to cause serious hardship to a wide range of people. Today's attack has the very real potential of causing a withdrawal of services until such times as the safety of these front line workers can be guaranteed."

She concluded by saying, "We again call on those within the community who are involved in this type of activity to take a serious look at themselves and where they are headed and to desist immediately from such activities."
