PSNI cannot resolve community issues

Irish Republican Socialist Party
29/11/09

The IRSP has today said it will place a picket on tonight's District Policing
Partnership meeting at Beechmount Leisure Center on the Falls Road, Belfast.

IRSP representative Gerard Foster said "Anti-social behavior in west Belfast has
increased significantly in recent years, and whilst most of the problems involve
drink and drug abuse among young people, there is still massive social deprivation
in the area which in our view, is the foremost cause of crime in west Belfast."

Mr. Foster continued "The IRSP are calling on all interested people but, most
importantly, the community to come together with local community groups to devise
and put into action a programme specifically tailored to tackle the problems facing
us.

"Young people in west Belfast need to take responsibility for their own actions and
understand that this type of activity destroys the quality of life for all the
residents including themselves. Community groups, funding resources, and statutory
agencies need to become more proactive in their activities to assist those in
society most at risk."

In conclusion Mr. Foster said "The PSNI cannot resolve issues regarding anti-social
behavior in west Belfast, it is our view that they are radically unequipped. It is
by community power alone that we can resolve the major issues facing the people of
west Belfast. In one instance last weekend the PSNI were spotted playing football
with the youths who congregate at Lenadoon shops. The same youths are guilty of
terrorising local residents."

IRSP Spokesperson Gerard Foster said "Drugs are a major issue for many working class
districts in Belfast with the drugs being pushed becoming more and more dangerous
with time. Over recent years we have seen the introduction of 'blues' to combat the
after-effects of cocaine, a lethal concoction of powder called 'snowball' and most
recently, the introduction of Ketamine onto the drug scene. We have witnessed a
death of a youth in the Tigers Bay from Ketamine, it is highly dangerous, almost
lethal and we would discourage people using it."

Mr. Foster continued "The IRSP in recent months have embarked upon a rigorous
anti-drugs campaign in the Short Strand and have provided advice and assistance to
residents in the Markets area. We are now branching out but require the support of
the community to resolve these issues - it is by community power alone that we can
remove the dealers from our areas."

In conclusion Mr. Foster said "The IRSP are firmly committed to eradicating the
drugs issues in our areas, if assistance is required we can be contacted through any
of our offices."

Following the recent attack on Andersonstown resident Jack Cassidy, the Irish
Republican Socialist Party in the area have called upon the Housing Executive to
ensure that all vulnerable people in the area are guaranteed safety in the coming
months.

IRSP Spokesperson Gerard Foster said "The IRSP is calling upon and will continue to
place pressure on the Housing Executive to ensure that all homes which are not
adequately secured are inspected with the intention of solving any security problems
which may arise. We are also calling upon the community to take extra care, to lock
their doors and to keep an extra eye on elderly neighbours at this time of year."

Mr. Foster continued "Over recent months we have seen the brutal murder of Harry
Holland and attacks on pensioners the length of west Belfast. It is imperative that
we, as members of the community stand shoulder to shoulder with all victims and
their families and to show them our solidarity and our outright revulsion at those
who prey on the vulnerable - these elements are not welcome by the community. The
PSNI are unequipped to effectively counter this growing problem, we need community
solutions to community problems."

In conclusion Mr. Foster said "If anyone in the community requires help or
assistance from the IRSP on any issue, they are more than welcome to contact us at
392 Falls Road or by telephone on 028 9032102."

The Belfast Comhairle Ceantair of the Irish Republican Socialist Party
condemn the actions of organized criminal Drug Dealers in the South and
East of the city who have threatened a number of young people with death
if they do not pay alleged drug money owed.

The young people in question, one of whom is fourteen, have recently been
informed by the PSNI that their lives are in danger, following this death
threat the young people concerned have gone into hiding fearing for their
lives.

The Irish Republican Socialist Party are quite clear about the actions of
this drug dealers, they are parasites that feed off the misery of many
working class people, peddling their deadly drugs to young and old alike.
They are in fact Drug Capitalists whose sole aim and purpose is to make
money, regardless of the trail of death, destruction and misery they leave
behind.

These death threats made to young children is as low as it gets, and the
IRSP has no hesitation in calling not only for the threats to be lifted
immediately, but for the Death Dealers to get off the backs of the Working
Class population of this City.

We call on other young people who are living under these sickening threats
to come forward, talk to some one, talk to the IRSP and other local
community activists.

remembers the two people, Margaret Lennon and Charles McMullan, killed by
the British Army near the site of the mural.

The North Belfast branch of the Irish Republican Socialist Party condemn
without hesitation last weekends attacks on Protestant homes in Twaddell
Avenue as the actions of sectarian thugs.
Nth Belfast representative Paul Little said; "Throughout the summer the
IRSP have been clear and concise regarding sectarian attacks on peoples
homes, in particular in the Oldpark and Carrickhill areas. We have no
qualms about condemning those involved in the attacks in Twaddell they are
motivated solely by sectarianism. Until such time as there are community
projects specifically aimed at eradicating sectarianism across the working
class community attacks such as those at the weekend are inevitable.
Sectarianism cannot be allowed to run unfettered and rampant it needs to
be pro actively challenged."

Operation Helvetic Replaces Operations Banner

There are about 5,000 troops of the British Army stationed in the North of
Ireland spread across 10 British military bases. The majority are involved
in training for operations in other countries including supporting the
occupation forces in Iraqui. Others, including - bomb disposal experts and
helicopter crews among them are part of Operation Helvetic, the new name
for the Army's supporting role in the province. Tuesday July 31st 2007 was
the last day of operation Banner that began in August 1969. Then, in
recognition of the dangers of the collapse of the local police force, the
RUC, in its war with the nationalist working class the British Government
sent in re-enforcement troops to join other garrisons of the British Army
in the six counties. British troops occupied the streets and their PR
people tried to create the impression that they were there to divide local
warring factions of Protestants and catholics. They were not. They were
there to stop the collapse of their local allies the Stormont Unionist
Government.
And now after forty years having persuaded the provisional republican
movement to join forces with the reactionary DUP and its notorious leader
Ian Paisley and run the six counties the British can afford to take a back
seat. But no one should be under any illusions. They still run the six
counties.
The Justice and Security Act (NI) of 2007 effective from 1st August means
that soldiers stationed in Northern Ireland have arrest powers greater
than in any other part of the UK tonight - even as their role here
officially diminishes. The legislation gives soldiers here the power to
stop and question anyone about their movements - and hold them
indefinitely until they answer. People refusing to identify themselves or
answer questions about their movements could be subject to a £5,000 fine.
The PSNI have also the same power – powers that the British Cabinet
rejected as unacceptable for police in the rest of the UK. No one should
be in any doubt that this combined with the building of the largest MI5
station outside of London and with MI5 taking overall responsibility for
intelligence gathering without being answerable to anyone but the British
prime minister that Britain is here for the long term. There will be no
united Ireland by 1916 despite the wishful thinking of the current
president of Sinn Fein (provisional wing)

Nth Belfast IRSP condemn CS gas use
The IRSP in North Belfast have condemned recent C.S. gas attacks against
local residents in Cliftonpark Avenue and Parkside in the past week, in
both incidents children as young as two were affected by the gas.

North Belfast representative Paul Little after speaking to residents in
both areas said;

“We have advised all residents affected by this thuggish behaviour from
the PSNI/RUC to seek legal advice and make a complaint to the police
ombudsman, what is clear is that the so-called new start for policing is
little more than a farce and for most residents of working class interface
communities it is the same old story.

The PSNI/RUC have no respect working class communities, they have
demonstrated this by their actions over recent days. We also note that
during the incident in Cliftonpark Avenue yesterday (Tuesday) a 14 year
old youth already suffering from the effects of the C.S. gas was put into
the back of a police land rover and driven along Cliftonpark Avenue in to
the loyalist Lower Oldpark area where they tried to make him get out
placing his life at risk from sectarian attack just yards from where young
Niall Ferrin was nearly murdered in a sectarian attack just weeks ago. The
youth refused to get out of the land rover and the PSNI/RUC eventually
brought him back to the nationalist side of the interface.”

In conclusion the IRSP representative said;

“All police personnel involved in these incidents should be suspended
immediately if not sacked! Those local political parties who support the
PSNI need to be explaining to local residents why they believe such
brutish behaviour by the police should be deemed as acceptable behaviour.

Whilst such incidents continue to occur and there is no action taken by
the police authorities to rein in these thugs in uniform and begin to
demonstrate that they have some understanding of the difficulties faced by
residents in interface communities they will continue to have little or no
support in these communities. Residents require respect not the baton and
C.S. gas.”

IRSP 'seize car'
http://www.derryjournal.com/journal?articleid=3065006

By Staff reporter
The IRSP in Galliagh have said they seized a so-called 'runaround' car
which was being driven by a 14 year-old boy in the Leafair area.
An IRSP spokesperson said that they were contacted by local residents who
were concerned about the way the car was being driven. “Activists from the
IRSP, alerted by locals, found the car in Leafair Park and quickly
arranged for the car to be disposed of. While we were waiting, these
people returned and smashed the windows of the car. The person driving the
car is a fourteen year old who is well known in the area for
anti-community activity,” she said. “We are aware that their parents know
exactly what these people are up to yet they seem to have neither the
ability nor the desire to control their actions. The reckless way in which
this car was being driven could very easily have led to serious injury or
death and we were only too willing to remove this car from the estate,” he
said. The IRSP also appealed to adults not to sell cars to children and
young people. “We must question the motives of any adult who is prepared
to sell a car to a fourteen year-old child knowing full well what the car
will be used for. We are calling for a unified community response to this
type of activity,” he said.

Sunday World dirty tricks and Strabane SF
Strabane IRSP recently became aware that Sunday World 'reporter' Hugh
Jordan had contacted members of Strabane Sinn Fein requesting a meeting as
he wanted to write a story about "the Irps in the local area".

Following his initial contact, a number of Sinn Fein members have met Mr
Jordan on several occasions over the last few weeks. Strabane IRSP are
aware of the identities of all involved.
We have decided to make this public at this time because we suspect that
these meetings between Jordan and Strabane Sinn Fein will result in yet
more sensationalist black propaganda aimed at members of the IRSP.

Some time ago another journalist Anton Mc Cabe wrote a story in La (Irish
Language paper) alleging that Willie Gallagher lived in luxury with a big
fancy car etc etc. Each and every one of Mc Cabes allegations were
disproved with evidence at a later meeting between senior members of the
IRSP and Mr McCabe and his NUJ representative Eamonn MC Cann. Anton McCabe
indicated that his source for the story was a local senior member of Sinn
Fein.
We not not know what stories and lies will be printed but we suspect that
Mr Jordan is targeting Strabane IRSP at the behest of one of his Special
Branch friends.

PSNI helicopter activity
Friday 6 July, 2007.

Following recent low flying helicopter activity in the Andersonstown area
of west Belfast the Irish Republican Socialist Party has issued a
statement challenging the PSNI over their use of this crude method of
surveillance.

Gerard Foster said "Low flying helicopters are renowned for the structural
damage they cause to property and in rural areas they have been known to
cause of the death of livestock. They have been used by British army
soldiers to intimidate the community in the past. We would then pose the
question as to why a PSNI helicopter would constantly circle a residential
area at low altitude for any length of time."

Mr. Foster continued "It's the view of the IRSP that British army
helicopters have been replaced with PSNI helicopters to further implement
the British policy of normalising their rule in Ireland."

Mr. Foster concluded by saying "Certainly if the arguments that we have
entered a new policing dispensation are to have any credit, the PSNI
mustn't pick up were the British army left off."

The IRSP in North Belfast are concerned with the rise of sectarian attacks
along the Cliftonpark Avenue interface that has culminated in the near
fatal attack on 15 year old Niall Ferrin last Friday night. North Belfast
IRSP representative Paul Little said:

'The severity of Friday nights attack is causing great concern and left
the young lad with injuries that are reminiscent of the notorious Shankill
Butchers! We believe that these attacks will not cease until there is a
genuine attempt to tackle sectarianism. It is sectarianism that lies at
the heart of problem.
Other initiatives such as the various 'intervention schemes' do little if
anything to address the longterm problems in interface areas, though they
do appear to salve the consciences of those who fund these projects.

In conclusion The IRSP representative said, Until there is a programe to
tackle sectarianism married to social and physical regeneration of
interface areas, attacks like last Fridays are inevitable. In 2007 that
this is the case in North Belfast is nothing short of criminal.'

The Irish Republican Socialist Party this evening held a children's party
in the Short Strand district of East Belfast. The party coincided with a
sectarian 'mini-twelve' parade passing the district and was aimed at
keeping children away from the interface.

Sweets and refreshments were avialable during the disco and later bouncy
castles were erected outside once the rain had cleared.

March protesters policed by Sinn Fein
6-30-07
The Protest today by residents of the Springfield Road against Loyalist
Sectarian Coat-Trailers marching triumphantly through the predominently
nationalist / republican Springfield Road was today policed by the agents
of New Sinn Fein.
Those prominent members of this once respected political party policed the
entire march as they manhandled protestors from the picket. Among those
manhandled were members of the RSYM. When they objected, and declared who
they were and that they had a right to protest at this coat-trailing
exercise, they were confronted with threats and a barrage of abuse.

The PSNI remained in their jeeps the whole time.

This attitude only serves the pruposes of the British, and further
highlights the elitist attitudes of those who now serve the British Crown.
All right thinking republicans and socialists need to condemn these
actions unequivocally and without reservation, although we recognise that
this is only the latest in attacks against the RSM from the very same
agents of the Crown.
